About me

Hello! I'm Megan! (she/her)

I moved to Whitehorse more than 20 years ago from Alberta. I was drawn to the Yukon because of the  accessibility to mountains, trails and rivers.

I have worked as a Social Worker since 2018 for both  the Federal and Yukon Governments. I have been counselling individuals for the past three years.

I am devoted to helping people navigate life’s challenges with compassionate care.

My goal is to empower you with the tools and skills needed to manage difficult thoughts, emotions and situations, allowing you to live a more fulfilling, balanced life. â€‹â€‹

It is a courageous step to seek help through counselling. If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, confused, depressed, anxious, lost, are coping with the impacts of trauma, or just feeling like something is off - I strive to offer you comfort in a safe space, with a focus on what you are seeking.

Evidence-based practice

Like many therapists, I draw from a range of clinical methods. However, I most often draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

While my training is rooted in the scientific methods - l  acknowledge there are many ways of knowing. For example, ancient cultural practices such as chanting and meditation are scientifically proven to offer a variety of health benefits.

How did the ancient ones know this? They just seemed to.

I believe each person possesses the wisdom within to live more fully, and I strive to help you reconnect with this!

Working with Indigenous Peoples....
I acknowledge I live, work and play on the ancient traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation, and the Ta'an Kwach'an Council.
As a third-generation Welsh–Norwegian/German settler, I hold deep gratitude that my ancestors were able to come to this land in search of safety and freedom from death and persecution. At the same time, I recognize that their opportunity to settle here is inseparable from the ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous peoples.

I approach my work with Indigenous individuals, families, and communities with cultural humility, an openness to learning, and a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. I strive to centre Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural values, and lived experiences within the therapeutic space, recognizing clients as the experts of their own lives and cultures.

My practice is grounded in relationship-building, and accountability, and I remain continually reflective about my role as a Canadian settler and working in ways that honour resilience, self-determination, and healing.

I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity in the past to work alongside the communities of Mayo with the Nacho Nyak Dun First Nation, Pelly Crossing with Selkirk First Nation, Ross River with Ross River Dene Council, and Carmacks with Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation citizens, and for the relationships and learning shared in these places.
